Alejandro Tlaie Boria

I work on independent audits of AI systems: how outside evaluators can get answers from what an AI developer holds (model weights, training checkpoints, user logs, agent traces) without the developer handing any of it over, and without the developer seeing the evaluator’s tests.

I’m a Senior Technical Product Manager at OpenMined, where I’ve led AI Oversight is OpenMined’s work on external scrutiny of AI. It builds on PySyft so that evaluators, auditors and regulators can run approved analyses on assets an AI developer can’t hand over, and get back only the results the owner agreed to release. since September 2026. OpenMined is a non-profit that builds PySyft, open-source software that lets an outside party get answers about an AI system or dataset it can’t see, with the owner approving what comes out.

Before that I was an AI Policy Advisor at Pour Demain, working on AI verification. I proposed a confidential-computing facility for deeper-than-black-box evaluations, then measured what it costs in practice: on a 744-billion-parameter model, running inside attested hardware added 5 to 7% to production inference time. Earlier, as a Talos Fellow at SaferAI, I worked on quantitative models of AI-enabled cyber risk, and I consulted for think tanks in Brussels on the EU’s General-Purpose AI Code of Practice.

I came to AI from science. I have a PhD in applied mathematics from the Technical University of Madrid, and an MSc in theoretical physics and an MPhil in philosophy of science from the Complutense University of Madrid. I did postdocs in information theory at the Italian Institute of Technology and in computational neuroscience at the Ernst Strüngmann Institute (in cooperation with the Max Planck Society), and was a visiting scholar at Princeton. Some of that earlier work is on the Projects page.
